Wow, we had quite a crew for stART today! It was a blast! For today’s stART I actually found the art project first and needed to a book to go with it. We were fortunate to have Sarah (read aloud extraordinaire) read our story today, “Miss Brooks Loves Books (and I don’t)” by Barbara Bottner. It was a new book to all of us. It is a delightful story about a girl who transforms into a book lover during the dreaded “Book Week” where she needs to give her class a book report. Check it out, we think you’ll like it!
After the book, the kids made their very own bag to hold all the books they love (well, I guess my son was the only one who insisted he wasn’t a book lover – I think this was a little fib). We are hoping to use Will’s to take books to and from the library. I found the project idea from an issue of “Disney’s Family Fun Magazine” (March issue, I believe).
Using cardboard pieces taped together with craft foam taped on top, I made rectangle “book” stamps of varying sizes. The kids painted craft paint onto the craft foam side of the stamps using a foam brush and then stamped the books in a pile or row on their canvas bag. The kids really seemed to enjoy the project, and you can see each bag has its own unique style.
Taylor (4), Will (3), Rylee (5), Alivya (7) and Bella (6)– thanks for joining us and I hope you enjoy your new bag!
